Getting Started at CrossFit Waterbury

At CrossFit Waterbury, we provide every new member the opportunity to learn about the CrossFit methodology and its exercises, prior to joining regular classes. We will coach you through basic and complex movements, technique, terminology, individual scaling, and what to expect from regular classes.

 

Free intro class

Every Saturday morning from 9:00am – 10:00am

Come join us for a free intro class every Saturday from 9:00am – 10:00am where we will show you what we do, and what you can expect from a CrossFit workout. This class will be structured very similar to a regular class but will only include very basic movements. From this class, we will be able to recommend the best way for you to get started with CrossFit!

What is crossfit?

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program that is by design broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing by combining constantly varied functional movements, and performing them at a high-intensity. What does that mean? Let’s break it down:

Constantly Varied

Routine is the enemy. CrossFit programming combines methodologies such as gymnastics, plyometrics and weightlifting into a high intensity workout that is constantly varied and seemingly random. In actuality, CrossFit Waterbury’s programming is well thought out and methodically designed. The program is developed to help you reach your fitness goals both efficiently and effectively, without getting bored.

Functional Movements

Functional movements are exercises that mimic movement patterns that are naturally found in everyday life. For example: Getting down on and up off the toilet is a squat, and picking up a bag of groceries simulates a deadlift.  CrossFit uses functional movements for a couple of reasons. First, these movements are mechanically sound.  When done properly, they are safe and deliver results. Second, at CrossFit Waterbury, we are aiming to provide you with a better quality of life. By improving your ability to perform functional movement, you will quickly find that your ability to perform activities outside the gym will improve as well. In other words, we will make you better at living.

High-Intensity

This is where CrossFit tends to get a bad rap. A common misconception of CrossFit is that intensity is working yourself to exhaustion. In actuality, intensity is synonymous with power. How much weight can you move, over the longest distance, in the shortest amount of time, while maintaining proper form and technique. Of course intensity is individual and relative. At CrossFit Waterbury we will help you find your appropriate intensity level to maximize your training and achieve your goals.

The most important thing to understand about our sport is that we are all in it together, motivating each other as a strong like minded community where the last person to finish the workout is just as important as the first person to finish.
